In this Episode of “Talk Data To Me”…

Daragh O Brien is joined (again) by our colleague Carey Lening to have a chat about some of the practical challenges and opportunities that organisations are encountering in their adoption and implementation of AI and GenAI solutions, where industry sources report a 30% to 40% failure rate in proofs of concept.

The discussion took place under the watchful eye of Carey’s cat psychologist (a psychologist who is a cat) and takes in discussion of a case study of WITSEC Consulting, who we encountered on recent client engagements and the challenges posed by people racing to find product/market fit for an emerging technology, while their customers are looking for a solution that will stand up to basic due diligence on data issues.

The ‘talk therapy’ moves on to include a discussion of the role of data fundamentals in the AI Age (a theme of our 2024 Data Leaders’ Summit) and the impact of data quality and algorithms on people when bad data goes wrong. We referenced recent developments in Tennessee regarding Medicaid and the UK’s Post Office Horizon scandal.

At the nudging of the Cat Therapist, we then move on to talking about AI Literacy and how it is a wonderful phrase in the EU’s AI Act that needs to be considered carefully in conjunction with its cousins Data Literacy and Digital Literacy.

In a podcast born out of frustration, we end on a happy note as we discuss how GenAI has at least begun to put data fundamentals and due diligence for business leaders in organisations on the table as key enablers of sustainable success.
