Oz Privacy Commissioner: Metadata can be Personal

From Lexology we learn that the Australian Privacy Commissioner has ruled that telecoms metadata (including ip address, cell towers, and other data retained beyond basic billing purposes) could be classed as personal data where there was an ability to cross match and link that data in a way that identified or “reasonably ascertained” the identity of an individual.
